Mary (Put on your Dancing Shoes) - stitching question

This is a trilogy piece - which I wrote in one sitting. I recorded each part separately, and then placed each next to the other in a long string. Each is done on its own and then put in place.

Do the seams show too clearly between the segments?

Anything else strike you?

First of all the clarity between parts in the first section is remarkable. The first transition works well in my opinion. The vocals are sitting nice and easy to hear everything. Second transition works nicely too.

My major sticky point in the first transition is whether the starting guitar tone is too different from the opening - as they were recorded differently at different times. Nice to see that you didn't find it a glaring change.

The second transition is to a 12 string guitar - again a texture change, but far more obvious - which, oddly, makes it easier for the brain to accept as "normal and expected" in the transition.
 
I think the difference is what makes it work. Also on the second change the strumming sorta starts while the movement before is ending kinda overlapping a bit. Works for me

Not exactly - Its obviously where they are are - but its not disruptive.

The guitars and vocals all sound Phased - the guitars are especially thin - if you sum the tracks to mono they practically disappear - everything drums etc..

When played solo - which is how I originally wrote it - that's how it happens, the end of one starts the next. When I went to full production on it, though, I wanted each to have its own arrangement. This necessitated texture blending - but therein lies the trick: making it flow from one movement to the next w/o offending the ear's sensibilities.
 
I think it sounds just fine, transitions and all. I listened in mono too and didn't find that the guitars disappeared. I'd be satisfied with the mix.

I really should listen more in mono - but I never do. Thanks for the double check!
 


In closure - this is where the song landed - as I needed to tweak the middle section still for better bass representation and balance of vocals. Oh - drums needed to recess just a smidge as well. They were just a little pokey. The other two sections I left untouched. They were simple enough and required no additional futzing with.
