i like my V67. it's the first condenser that didn't hype all of the bad things in my voice (of which there are plenty). i've also found it to be a really nice drum overhead mic. haven't had much success with it on my Martin, but i'm hoping it'll be just the thing to tame my buddy's HD28V (hand cannon).
i would agree with others in that this is not a dark mic....but rather just not overly bright. i would also agree with chess in that there's "something" in the midrange that makes it sound kinda spitty, but overall the *tone* of the mic is pretty nice to my ears. it's a $100 mic....and with $100 mics you often have to make concessions. i'll trade a little midrange spittiness for a pretty solid tone.
before i bought my Dragonfly, i could have easily been sold on the V67 as "the cat's meow", but since i've been exposed to the wonderfulness that is the BLUE, it's easy to change my frame of reference. the V67 has neither the openness nor the clarity that the dragonfly has. but i don't expect it to, either. even though i'd consider the dragonfly a "better" mic in terms of just about everything, that doesn't nor will diminish the V67's role in my recordings.....in fact, i'm thinking about picking a 2nd up for stereo overheads.....
cheers,
wade
