Marshall on an Avatar?

I just recently picked up a full-sized Marshall head. I went with a 50-watter so I could push it a little harder, and I want a lower powered cabinet to accompany my amp.

I think I want some Greenbacks, but the Marshall 1960xC cabs that include them are close to a thousand dollars. I can order an Avatar cab with Greenbacks, internal bracing (that happy little 2X2 piece of wood that I've been told has disappeared from new 1960 cabs), and cool wheat-colored grill cloth that looks great with the brass-colored aluminum plating on a Marshall. More importanly, it's around $425 after shipping.

One problem: the Marshall heads are listed at between 740 and 750 mm wide, which translates to almost 29.5". The Avatar cabs are listed as being only 28.5" wide.

Not to be a stickler, but I worry about hanging my head (no pun intended) a half inch over each side of a cab. It seems like it might be less stable (inherently so, but to what degree is questionable), and guaranteed it'll look funny.

Does anyone have any experience with this sort of problem? What solutions are there, or should I not worry about it?

Doesn't your amp have feet? (those little nubbins on the bottom, 4 of them) Usually those are smaller than any cab, so part of your head would be hanging over but its not the base hanging over.

Apart from the visual problems, you won't have a problem. I would be more concerend with the depth than 1" of width.

Avatar cabs are great, I have one. Another thing to think about is having them custom make you one for your head.

You can't push a 50 watt amp any harder than a 100 watt amp. If you think there will be a volume difference, I think you will be a little disapointed.

He meant push the tubes harder without having to have the volume (as) cranked. More tube saturation at lower volumes.

That is not reality. This whole saturating quicker at a lesser volume is not really true on a 50/100 watt comparison. Put them next to each other and hear for yourself. There is a difference in gain structure, but by the time either amp hits its sweet spot, the actual volume difference you hear will not be noticeable with out testing equipment or an A/B test.

I've got a couple of the Avatar 2x12 cabs. They're a bargain and an excellent product. Dave tossed in extra rubber feet. I've got them sitting on their side with the amp heads on top that way.
