Marshall 603s

on this website there are two different prices listed for pairs of MXL 603s. In the description they make a distinction between "pair" and "matched pair"...what use are an unmatched pair? is this why one set is cheaper and has a different item number?

Unmatched pairs are good for mic'ing situations where accurate stereo image isn't important. Like close micing and the room micing an amp, or 1 mic on 12th fret of acoustic, one at bridge, etc.

The difference in price is for the factory taking the time to find 2 mics with similar sounds/outputs and also in this instance, I believe only the "matched pair" comes with windscreen, shockmount, and carrying case. The site's description is misleading.

That's correct and matched pairs are good for mic'ing situations where accurate stereo image is important... get the matched stereo pair.
