Marshall 603s and V-67 are the best mics to get for an acustic and vocals?

Are these the best mics? are they? I have got several responses and the majority of the people think these are? Yes or no...

Hmmm, well no 2 mics will always be the "best" mics for a particular situation. However, I have a 603 and I've heard from several people who have a V67 whose opinion I respect so from what I know about these mics, I'd say they are a good place to start. What I would do is get the 67 and use it for both purposes you list and if you feel it lacks something for acoustic guitar, then try the 603. Our own person Slackmaster found that he favored the V67 over the 603, even for acoustic guitar (see this thread). So unless you need drum overheads or you really want a stereo pair of mics, I would hold off a bit on the 603's.

No one can say any mic is the best unless they follow up that statment with "in my opinion". Experiment use a crappy mic, see how much difference you really hear. I hear people say 20 bit recording sounds better than 16 bit all the time, and maybe my ears are shot but i can't hear any difference. I try to determine if a mic is good or not by not how "fat", or "warm" or any of that crap but by how real the track sounds coming out of my monitors.

I should say that I haven't fully tried the 603, and the opinions I stated in that thread are very amature. I have a bit more experimenting to do before sending it back to harvey next week. I initially liked the sound of the V67 on my guitar better than the 603, but with a bit of repositioning....I dunno...the 603 produced better results in terms of consistancy in volume and tone, where the V67 was kind of all over the place sounding, though better sounding, if you know what I mean (I don't really, haha).

I don't think that you can go *wrong* with these mics and all I can base my opinion on is THE PRICE, my minimal use of them, and the recommendations of harvey and others. From a kind of newbie "I need a mic" standpoint, I am not unhappy with my purchase of the 67 and will probably purchase a couple 603's.

But then I've liked things at first before, and then have grown to dislike them....that's what sucks about just starting out I guess.

Yeah, I know just what your saying about starting out and all. I have never purchased any mics before so I have to just take other peoples advise. Thanks for yours. How does the 67 sound with vocals?
