Maroon 5 vocal sound

Ignoring the merits of this particular boyband for a second, has anyone any thoughts on how their vocals get to sound the way they do? They sound very 'present' and 'tight' but I don't really know what those words mean!!!! It's certainly a very modern sound.

I'm not trying to get their sound so much as trying to train my ears to what I'm hearing.

Guess I stumped you all then. I'm not putting mp3s up so I get busted. They're not really a boyband ... just the programmed drums make it all a little Timberlakesque.
