IS IT POSSIBLE TO MARKET MIXED CD'S ONLINE WITHOUT BEING SUED BY THE ARTISTS? ALSO , IS THERE ANY WAY TO SUBMIT A CONTINOUS MIX CD TO A RECORD LABEL ONLINE? AND IF SO, WHICH LABELS DO YOU SUGGEST?

The only way you're going to be sued is if you're illegally distributing the material.... so the way to get around it is to PAY THE ROYALITIES... Duh....

Mechanical licenses are obtained at the Harry Fox Agency.

SUBMITTING MIXED CD'S TO RECORD LABELS

I'D LIKE SOME INFO ABOUT SUBMITTING MIXED CD'S TO RECORD LABELS INORDER TO BE SIGNED AS AN ARTISTS. I HEARD THAT IF YOUR CD IS GOOD ENOUGH THE RECORD LABEL THAT SIGNS YOU TAKES CARE OF THE LEGAL ASPECTS REGUARDING ROYALTIES AND SUCH. I FREQUENTLY BUY MIXED CD'S FROM VARIOUS MUSIC STORES AND WOULD LIKE TO SOMEDAY SEE ONE OF MY MIXED CD'S THERE TOO.

Here's a novel idea: why not write your own music and "market" it? Just a thought.

aiyi indo,

yes the process is not as difficult as you may think to obtain licenses.....Bear was right on the money HFA handles the issuance so contact them for permission......as for your 2nd post.....I wouldn't trust a record label handling your publishing royalties......you would use a publisher (although sometimes you will use your record labels publishing company to do so) avoid that if possible.......E-mail me again I know some publishers that may be able to help you if you've got a good product....
