try www.samash.com, the recording dept. They have almost every manual known to mankind!
Good Luck!

kool..thanks..i've emailed their sales dept.

i did find one source..i dont know much about them..

http://www.cadvision.com/Home_Pages/accounts/ranaud/manuals2.htm

but $28 for a manual seems a little steep..

i wonder if dbx has a similar model to the 163x?

it's a compressor/limiter i bought used years ago and used in my bass rig..i kinda set the threshold and level up by ear back then but now i'd like to use it in my home recording setup if i can..i'm just not all that familiar with these units..
it has stereo strapping, hi-z input, reg input....hell i dont know which to use so a manual of some sort would help my ignorant arse lol...

well..good news i guess...a dbx customer support rep is mailing me a manual for a dbx 163A...he says that the 163x manual is not avalible..oh well......

Dude, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the 163X the one with the one big "compression" slider and a gain knob ? How hard could that be to figure out?

it's not hard to figure out....that's not the point..i like manuals for getting reccomended settings.....plus i'm learning to use this thing for recording...and the sites i listed are for getting manuals in general if one wants to find one.....

I for one thankyou CDT-shag for the most useful links!

that's kool..i've gotten enough free advice and information here to share when I know something (my knowledge is really, really close to "enough to be dangerous")...LOL...

i just sing and play..but i'm learning to record/mix half-way decent songs now..thanks to this board...:D

I'll give this another bump...

My bass player is using an amp that has a preamp out. The level is a bit low going into my DAW, so I was going to run it through my Meek VC1Q or whatever it's called to get a higher level and add some compression.

I've read a few things saying that the Meek compressor isn't that great for bass, and this thread indicates that the 163X is. My question is whether the gain knob on the 163X would be sufficient to get the levels up. Is it post gain? I just need a "smidge" added to the levels. My DAW says the bass output is at about -15 or som and I'd like to get it up around -7, if that's useful info.

Thanks,

Tom

hey thanks for the link..i finally found the manual about a year ago in a box. I never have used it for recording..i just use plugins (which work fine for my demos).

tom,

you can definetly get enough gain from the dbx. and it fattens up a bass signal nicely...i used it with a bass with active pu's...but i've heard it with a passive bass and you can still dial in a fat tone..

actually, you can distort the hell out of your signal if you crank it.
