That is like a $4000 mic. They are wonderful but out of most peoples price range. I don't think Manley makes a bad product or even a cheap one.

I have a friend who has one and has used it mainly for vocals.
It is a nice mic, sounding very clear, but I am not sure (for me personally) it is worth the money. I like my T-3 tube mic as well for vocals, although it does not sound the same at all.

My guess is that before you spend $4,000+ on a mic, you should learn to spell cardioid.-Richie

Thanks Richie,
And folks, stop back....he's here all week!

Why should I learn to spell again????

I wasn't going to spend $4,000 on a mic. at the time the bidding on e-bay was $26 or something. Now it's over $1,000 and there is no way I'm wasting time looking at a $4,000 mic. I can do very well with something cheap in the $200 range thank you.

An interesting side note is that the capsule in the Manley Reference Cardioid mic, like the capsule in the highly regarded Soundelux U195, is made in China.

This is the microphone the great Don LaFontaine used. I don't know about singing, but then again for me a simple dynamic microphone should be more than good enough for singing, but for quality recording of the human voice the way the voice should be used (in other words, for recording the spoken word) this microphone should be the best there is. Don never sounded bad! Don was the greatest! Sorry, I just had to say this.

The point Richie is making is the very one you just kinda made yourself. Just a bit of research would have shown you that an MTR isn't a $26 mic. Just putting the name "Manley" on anything pretty much guarantees that it'll be over $1,000.

Not to worry though...there are a ton of decent mics in the $500-$1,000 range. They're not an MTR, but they're definitely usable.

Harvey, it may have been said before, but you have an amazing talent for finding the few choice words needed to bring things into complete perspective. Interesting sidenote indeed.

Indeed. A few of the key components to our missile guidance systems and some of the electronics used in some of our fighter aircraft fuel systems are also made in China. "Made in China" does not necessarily equal "bad".

And that was exactly my point; judging anything by country of origin is something that people should avoid doing.

(Well, okay, French cars, but that's about it.)
