I don't reject the new; I jsut don't throw away what works & sounds good. Also I'm cautious as no technology seems to have a hold on the m,arket except for the strangulation that is Apple proprietriness.
I have a portable digital media player but one that plays wav. files so I don't have to accept less than good.
There's a CD player in 3 rooms in the house (each with a stereo system). My 1st CD player was a little Marantz that weighed about 4 kilos. Simple technology PLAY, NEXT, PREV, STOP & OPEN/CLOSE.
I have a mobile/cell phone that I turn on to use & press buttons to dial.
I have Reaper but also use my 4track Cassette, stereo tape reel player, Zoom R16 & Roland Disklab.
I buy CDs, (just bought a new one yesterday), and am impossible to drag away from the LP bin in 2nd hand stores.
I still have many cassette tapes & at least 3 cassette players.
I have 2 turntables: one with a Toshiba receiver connected to my computer for archiving/restoration purposes.
Oh, 2 Quad amps - one of which is properly set up with quad speakers and a quad source player.
I think video is the one area where I'm not lagging too far behind. I have VHS, DVD, BlueRay & one of those little media centres to play avi/mkv movie files. However, I think that the progress in that area is probably due to the missus!
Oh, oh! Little vinyl solution gizmo time...I love the Reverb unit! I have two 801 Omnisonic Imagers. They are partly exciters/enhancers from the vinyl era. Little black units with wooden end pieces and two buttons. They made a version for the car that had a slider for variable enhancement etc but these things are ON/OFF. REALLY cool for hearing what's deep inside the grooves of older recordings. Listening to Hendrix through it brought to light all sorts of little additions and oddities includeing him mumbling while playing.
On the extra cool side they do wonderful or awful things to guitar. It's a case of try it & see. A little like the sonic max stomp box. The unit was recommended to me by Fran Ashton - a UK producer.
