Man. I miss the sound of a needle on a record....

It is amazing though that the younger folks don't listen to full songs any more.
Maybe it has to do with the quality of the stuff that is coming out now a days. To predictable? Not interesting enough? Just get to the hook of the song and that's it!
Unless they are waiting for the few swear words then they sit there as if it was Xmas waiting for the swear.

It's not just music. Kids can't do anything all the way anymore. There's too much stimulation competition. They have too many gadgets. There's too much going on. They don't wanna learn to play guitar, they wanna learn to play guitar hero. The ones that do play guitar spend their time learning one solo from one song and just playing it over and over until they get bored. They don't even finish video games. They get halfway into one, then another comes out, and they move on to that one. It's just a different era. I hope I die before they take over.

Yup. I don't think even my own kids listen to a song from beginning to end. Nevermind a whole album. It's skip, skip, skip,
When my kids come to work with me, I'll be playing my stuff and they'll listen through and say "can we hear that again ?". I'm often surprized. "Did you actually like that ?". "Yeah, it was awesome sauce !".
On the other hand, since my 10 year old got an MP3 player, he'll listen to an opening riff and say "could you put that on the ipod for me ?" and I'll say to him, "You haven't even listened to the song !" and he'll just reply "I love that guitar ! I want it !"
Actually sometimes, I just like the silence but either one will more often than not say "Dad, can you put on some music ?".
just as background filler. I hate it.
Over here, that's a real woman thing, background filler. I hope no one finds that offensive but since the 80s, that's something I've repeatedly observed. I actively have looked out for it since 1993. Blokes put on music while they work or whatever, but they listen to the music. While the females just want background filler. It doesn't matter if it's CDs/LPs, radio or telly. So many of them have told me that down the years; "Oh, I'm not watching it, I just want some background noise". Drives me up the wall.

My good lady does that grim. I go in "Whats that sh1t you're watching?" I'm not really watching it.
I say there is an off switch you know. Her excuse "Well its company"
I say turn the shite off i'm better company. I dont want to watch csi, jeremy kyle, come dine with me on a freaking loop
Rant over

CSI {if it's Miami} I can take. Jeremy Kyle I can not. And don't get me started on "Come dine with me". I detest that programme with a venom that even worries me sometimes. :laughings: Especially that stupid narrator.
A couple of years back, my close friend had us over for a come dine with me evening. She and my wife were well into it.
The things we do for friendship !

What I miss the most is the album art. The jacket was something you could hold and read. Lots of room for eye candy. sigh.....
I always loved pouring through all the information on covers and learned all kinds of non essential information. I noticed, for example, that the information on the back of Keith Jarrett's album "Death and the flower" was identical to that of his album "Backhand". The albums were released a year apart, almost, but his band played the exact same instruments, the studio it was recorded in was the same, the dates of the sessions were identical. So early on in life, I was able to deduce that the songs on both albums were recorded at the same session ! Genius ! :D
Same with Gateway's eponymous album. I noticed that it was recorded at the same time, in the same studio, on the same label with the same producer as Colin Wallcott's "Cloud dance". Not only that, the three members of Gateway were the sidemen on Wallcott's album, some even co~writing some of the tracks with him.
It was while having a good look at Santana's debut album cover {the one with the lion on front} that I noticed that it was composed of two bodies and a series of faces.
I loved album covers, sigh.......

I actually collect vintage gear. And I have a large collection of vinyl and tape (R2R, Cassette, 8 Track). My wife says I have a problem. If I find old gear at flea markets, garage sales, what-ever, I get it. Clean it and get it back to an operational state and box it up :) . Of course I have my personal system I use daily, I just like collecting it. Hell my kids prefer the stuff to CD's. Just sounds better, even with the occasional crack and pop :) Well over 12,000 LP's and 45's. Boxes at the top are full of 45's. I need to extend the shelves up. Jukebox of course is full of classic 45's ranging from Patsie Cline to Zeppelin

I actually came across a Sansui RA500 Reverb Unit that was for home stereo systems to give the sound, well. reverb. I need to see about converting the rca jacks to xlr's and use it to record with. But the pro to consumer voltage might be an issue. May have to research it. Here is a picture of the same unit someone is selling on ebay.

Thousands of LPs and 45s (even several hundred 78s), 18,000 tracks on R2R, 800 cassettes, Wurlitzer 60s juke, masses of Sansui Hi-Fi I've been listeng with for 50 years - my younger friends just can't believe the quality and depth of sound I can produce. All junk, my partner calls it, and no doubt when I fall off the twig (no longer a distant prospect), it will all go down the tip. Once upon a time, you could find it a good home in the hospital radio service, but even that now relies on Apricot Annie or her successors. [sigh....!]

albums

still have around 600 vinyl lp's. i guess this is my thing to pass down to the kids.love the sound of analog , but it's a dying craft. my youngest daughter is turning 16 this week ( she does sing quite well) and i'm giving her a bday present by taking her into a professional studio to record tracks to 24 track 2 inch Tape! hopefully she'll remember this event for a long time. hell... we may be recording with water in next years.

I don't reject the new; I jsut don't throw away what works & sounds good. Also I'm cautious as no technology seems to have a hold on the m,arket except for the strangulation that is Apple proprietriness.
I have a portable digital media player but one that plays wav. files so I don't have to accept less than good.
There's a CD player in 3 rooms in the house (each with a stereo system). My 1st CD player was a little Marantz that weighed about 4 kilos. Simple technology PLAY, NEXT, PREV, STOP & OPEN/CLOSE.
I have a mobile/cell phone that I turn on to use & press buttons to dial.
I have Reaper but also use my 4track Cassette, stereo tape reel player, Zoom R16 & Roland Disklab.
I buy CDs, (just bought a new one yesterday), and am impossible to drag away from the LP bin in 2nd hand stores.
I still have many cassette tapes & at least 3 cassette players.
I have 2 turntables: one with a Toshiba receiver connected to my computer for archiving/restoration purposes.
Oh, 2 Quad amps - one of which is properly set up with quad speakers and a quad source player.
I think video is the one area where I'm not lagging too far behind. I have VHS, DVD, BlueRay & one of those little media centres to play avi/mkv movie files. However, I think that the progress in that area is probably due to the missus!
Oh, oh! Little vinyl solution gizmo time...I love the Reverb unit! I have two 801 Omnisonic Imagers. They are partly exciters/enhancers from the vinyl era. Little black units with wooden end pieces and two buttons. They made a version for the car that had a slider for variable enhancement etc but these things are ON/OFF. REALLY cool for hearing what's deep inside the grooves of older recordings. Listening to Hendrix through it brought to light all sorts of little additions and oddities includeing him mumbling while playing.
On the extra cool side they do wonderful or awful things to guitar. It's a case of try it & see. A little like the sonic max stomp box. The unit was recommended to me by Fran Ashton - a UK producer.

It was perceived as a put down, a common troll antic.

We're in the mixing section. Maybe my Free Plugin of the Week will inspire Rami or someone else to get creative in a manner they normally wouldnt consider.

Doesnt have to go across the entire mix. Maybe the intro, verse, chorus, middle 8 or outro or as cool vox fx. :D

Look, over there, under the bridge...

Didn't strike me as trolling.
