Hello
I am looking for help on the process of creating a 7". My main concern is after I have recorded (onto a 4 track), and am preparing to mixdown, can I mix stright to DAT and make a record ready product? Or do I have to go to a studio and get it normalized, digital silence inserted, etc. You know, the $ stuff. Thanks

You don't have to, but I sure wouldn't want to buy that CD. There are many resources on this site and BBS that are correct in saying mastering by someone who knows their shit is completely necessary. Unless it's nothing beyond a demo, get it mastered (by someone qualified).

ESPECIALLY for vinyl.. if you want it to be a cut people will actually play. In my experience, if its a quiet record, no matter how dope it is, it usually gets left at home.

No, you don't need to get it normalize and have digital silence inserted if you are making a vinyl record. What you do need to do is to get it to a vinyl mastering house. They will master it for you, and make it for you.

The mastering includes some compression and filtering (which I'm told includes some special magic when it comes to vinyl). They will "normalize" it when they cut the wax.

I forgot the link (I'll try and bring it up later),but the machine that produces vinyl LP's cost inthe area of $11,000 hence if you insist on vinyl,it would be bast to take it to a facility that caters to vinyl reproduction.
