Hi, I use a tascam US122 with my laptop (xp home edt) and Nuendo 2. My problem is that when the US122 is connected the computer freezes completely after a few minutes. I have on choice but to force a reboot on the system. After a few reboots during a recording sessions the system seems to stabilise. I have lost so many tracks by now, and I'm really getting fed up with the device.

Does anyone know if there are better drivers or other solutions to this problem?

All thoughts are appreciated

ole. there have been more than a few probs with usb devices.
on some pc's they work and on others they dont.
i would contact tascam tech support for resolution.

USB prevents PC going into Stand By

Whilst recording, you do not send interrupts to the PC. So after a while the PC goes in StBy mode. The TASCAM US 122 conflicts with WinXP (and so do a lot of USB devices). Check if your PC hangs after the expected time to go into resume or StBy mode. (And just turn that option off)

Thanks for response, Bert and Manning. The system freeze occurs just minutes after the u122 is plugged in, and it occurs while I work. Thats why I don't think it's the StBy mode that interrupts with the device. I will however turn off the StBy option off.

I will post the reply I get from the Tascam tech-support when I recieve it.

I've also had unexplainable problems with XP Home & the US122 & I notice others have had similar experiences. Tascam tech support denies the incompatibility. Can you tell me more about this, & how do you know it is incompatible?

Of course all the manufacturers say it must be the fault of another manufacturer's product. What other hardware or software that you know of, are incompatible with XP?
Or is it just certain components of XP?

After months of intermittent crashing & in-depth troubleshooting, I'm considering going with Win2k instead.

St By mode

I downloaded the latest driver from TASCAM website, but problem remains ... When attempting to go in StBy mode, the thing freezes completely.

This is the reply from the Tascam European team

Dear Mr. Borum,

Please check, if maybe your USB Shares an Interrupt with some device
like your graphics card.

This can be done by entering the device manager and selecting
View/Resources by type.

Does this make any sense to anyone?

Sorry to hear you're having so much trouble. Mine works great, but I'm running Windows 98 SE.

Make sure you don't have anything running in the background. Since you're not online while recording, you can turn off AV, Spyware tools, IM, etc. People keep a lot of crap running all the time on their PCs; it's amazing they work at all!
