So my son came home from college, and I had a chance to give my new mics a workout...

The NT1a and e300 sound great on me, and him...

But the Baby Bottle I got from HangDog is DOA. Not a peep. This was the one I'd hoped for the most. At first I thought, "Man this thing is QUIET!" Well, it is. And I've got to do a VO tonight...

That mic worked when I put it in the box. It's got to be something stupid. I suppose something could of happend during shipping but those mics are built well. Package didn't look damaged did it?

[edit]
I shipped this through my workplace and its probably insured. I'm sure if there is something wrong with it, it has to be minor and Blue can fix it. If not, I"ll pay half the repair charge.

I appreciate that very much. While I am more than well endowed in the stupidity department, this time it's the mic that's not working. As I said, when I switched it out for the others, they all worked fine. The BLUE is emanating nothing... not even hiss. (FYI, I even bought a Blueberry cable to go with it...)

BUT, when it arrived via UPS, the wooden box was not surrounded by any more than a 1/4" of wrap. Your shipping department let this out without nearly enough insulation. The box should have been set inside a much larger box... The mic itself was loose, not secured via the plastic clip. In my opinion, the capsule looks like it has 2 very small dings...

So I filed a repair thing with Blue and I assume they'll email an authorization after the holiday.

I'm not saying it's your fault. But I also know it's not mine. For whatever reason the mic is just dead, and I wish I'd just bought a new one. At least BLUE will make sure it's up to factory spec... And my guess is they won't charge much.

The good thing from all this I realise how much I like the NT1a on my voice! It's a tad sensitive on the 's's, but it really brings out the lower registers. On me, I prefer it over the CAD e300... (at least for now). The CAD is more airey, but I sound thinner on it too...

I'm sorry to hear about the Blue. There is one more thing to try if you haven't already -try using a different cable. I have two Blueberry cables that just won't work on phantom powered mics as well as some dynamics. Plays well with other dyns though. Anyway, it's worth trying a standard cable just to see.

Cheers, Rez

Well keep me informed. I will check tomorrow on the insurance. Even if it was insured for $100 it will probably cover it. If not, I'll pick up half the cost. Check it with another cable just for the hell of it. Can't hurt. This really blows. I've been having a rash of crap hitting me lately. My 2 week old $500 aluminum shed blew away and landed in the neighbors driveway a couple days ago. I"m not having any luck.

Sure, I can try another cable... Seeing as how the cable worked with 2 others, I'll be shocked if the BLUE cable works with everything except a BLUE microphone. That'd be one for the books.

I have shipping checking on a claim. It would be $100. Probably enough to fix it. The problem might be how long it took you to tell me. You really should have checked it out as soon as you got it. I'll let you know.

Well the cable switch did nothing.

It's true. I should have checked it out immediately. But frankly my work has been a major priority, and I just assumed there'd be no problem.

UPS isn't great at claim awards anyway...

Yeah, I assumed the same. Well, $100 is $100 and if I can get it I will.

Although I feel for ya, I'm wondering why you chose to take this issue out in the open instead of keeping it private with HangDawg. Unless we're dealing with someone who is shady (which I'm assuming HangDawg is not), I would've opted for PM's or email communication.

Don't take this the wrong way, just expressing my opinion and am glad that HangDawg is dealing with it in a decent manner for you.

I'll tell ya. Because a number of people spent some time and gave good advice when I was looking for mics, and if you look, I've given updates on all the ones I got. The Blue is one of them.

I don't mind. Really. We both seem to be on here during the day so it makes for speedy communication.

SM7 is $300 at GC and is much better than Baby Bottle at VO from my experience. If your Bottle ends up too much to fix check out the SM7.
