Has it always been that way right out of the box? if not then when did it start making the noise. like after an update either the driver of the onyx or a OS update

The whine has been here since I bought it (new.) tubedude's comments have got me thinking that maybe emailing Apple would be a good idea, as they may have ideas as to why this is occurring. Maybe some kind of firewire driver update (or something) would help... Thanks guys.

also you can try it on another mac or PC. weather its another one you have or a friends or at work if they let you.
