Hey, on musicians friend they have a DFX12 mackie mixer for 239.99.....is this one worth getting or should i save up for a better mackie. i'll just be doing some rough demos at home, and using it for live sound. if you know a better mixer in its price range thatd be helpful. i also noticed the DFX series isn't on the Mackie site anymore so maybe this is a closeout??
thanks, jon

Hi - I've got one of those that I picked up for small gigs. I paid $239 from another store when Musicians Fiend was selling them for $379. At $379, it would be better to go for a VLZ Pro series. At $239, it's a nice little mixer and a good deal. Just be aware that it doesn't have the same quality pre's and such that the Pro series has. But it does a have a decent built in EFX unit, and some pretty cool features like the break switch. All in all, I think it's a steal for that price.
As for recording with it, the specs fall well short of the Pro series, but they aren't all that bad. EIN is plenty good enough, but THD is marginal. Certainly good enough for demos, just not pro. Oh, and it is still on Mackies website.
Regards, RD
