I'm a big fan of the Mackie monitor (so shoot me). When I used these in a rented studio I thought they sounded fantastic. Well, if anyone has noticed, Behringer has a knockoff that looks almost identical and has nearly the same specs. And, at 150 watts low, 75 watts high, they are quite juicy in the power range. (same as Mackies)
My question is this... has anyone had any hands on with the Behringer monitors. They are 1/2 the price of the mackie, and if they are close i sound quality, I think I may buy a pair. Check out the freq resp on the web page... flat as a pancake down to 50hz. I think the Mackies go down to 42 or so before dropping off.
Like I said, the Mackies were great, I just want to know how they compare. Can anyone HELP? :)
Peace.

This is true... I agree, BUT... sometimes budget is everything, especially with 2 kids and the bills that erupt from such. I would absolutely LOVE to have the Mackies, without a doubt, but I will never, ever get a pair because of money and my lack of it. Do remember, alot of the popular monitors everyone is after (Tannoy Reveals) are made, I believe, in Britain.
Like I said, because of price range, the Mackies are impossible. But considering the pair of Behringers cost less than a single Mackie, I can't help but gravitate that way. The money I spend is "monitored" by an "anti-homestudio" individual, if you know what I mean. Sometimes I gotta hide stuff. :)
Anyway, my question still stands... has anyone HEARD the Behringer monitors? Or better yet, a powered AMERICAN monitor that is GREAT in the $500 range? I like the bi-amped stuff, or maybe it was just the Mackie talking.
Peace,
Paul

Its like behringer is mackies kid brother or something...if greg mackie is eating pistachio ice cream then tom?? behringer wants pistachio right away. You took the words out of my mouth C7. I think all you gotta do is check and see if a behringer MX-1604A sounds like a mackie 1604-VLZ PRO. If the answer is yes then by all means buy the behringer speakers. On the other hand the mackie speakers are a couple hundred pricier than they should be. No arguement there.

Go and check out the equipment in your price range. Listen to the available monitors. Don't look at the brands, buy what is better (for you).
It IS as easy as that.

since behringer-bashing seems to be in vogue here....

let's see....the behringer MX1604A sells for $200, the Mackie equivalent (the 1202 VLZPro - not the 1604) sells for $380...I would hope that the Mackie sounds at least a bit better since it costs almost twice as much, wouldn't you think??

tubedude - I feel your pain - I'm on a serious wife-induced budget as well ("$300 for a digital recording thingy....how about the new roof?........."). What you rather have - an "inferior (according to the Mackie love-fest on this board)" Behringer product or no product at all?? Sometimes some of us gotta cut corners....something that some people can't seem to grasp

Everybody has to make their own decisions as to what they can afford. And that is a function of what your goals are. If you are working on something that you hope to present to the public and possibly sell commercially then you need to consider your gear carefully and keep in mind the general level of sound quality you hope to achieve. If its a hobby that will not go further than your own 2 ears- thats a whole dif story. In general gear is an investment. An investment that will be around for a long time and I think most people give advice with that equation in mind.
