I've been thinking about picking up one of these mixers to go with my 8 track ADAT but I'm not sure if the mixer has the proper sends and returns. I want to be able to run all the tracks individually back through the mixer FX and volumes etc. Now I understand sending 8 tracks strait from the mixer into the ADAT and back into the mixer on the other 8 channels for the final mix. does the CR1604 have the proper returns to use just 8 channels so I can have some leftover to use more than 1 per track. Ahhhh! my heads going to explode from confusion  any info is greatly appreciated as well as any good deals anybody knows about on the CR1604.

Thanks

I owned one of those boards and I don't think so. Because the 8 channel that you are sending to be recorded with already have the input material in them so you'll have to use 8 other tracks to monitor with and you can solo those channels so that only the eight channels you want to monitor goes out of the main outs. I use a DDX3216 now and this works great for ADAT. I have use 1-16 for recording and 17-36 for monitoring. You really need a 24 channel mixer if you want to stay analog. Might consider the mackie SR 24/4
