yep as for the 1031's, asp8's and 824's.. we kept the setting flat(normal on the mackies)

I played with them a little...maybe not enough though...They were on loan, so I had to give them back...but should be getting them again after the first.

The settings that you use will be based on your room acoustics.

I have all of mine on normal except the Acoustics Setting. If their backs are near a wall say at least 2-3 feet, I would try setting the Acoustics setting to half space. If they are in a corner, then that would be a different acoustic setting.

they had plenty of space behind them..
they were on the synergy 800 deck and had at least 4-5 feet behind the desk.
trust me i've used the mackies for years, i know how to set them right. they just don't compare to the asp8's
my partner will have his asp8's in my studio friday night.. if i can i'll call someone i know with mackies or rent a pair and compare them in my studio...
i know last time i did the same thing, i went with the 20/20BAS's over the mackies b/c they were a hole lot smoother to mix on. the stereo imaging was better IMO, the high end wasn't splashy when playing songs with loud hi hats.. the list goes on and on..

malcom & c9 and others...

When you get a chance would you guys mention the model of DAC you're using so I can follow along closely ! :)

thanx
kylen

i've used plenty.. but this day i was using a HD3 accel system with 192i/o
we were using the 192 system with a few Rosetta 800's

I don't think the 824s are hyped on the high end at all. Just the opposite. When I've got something that sounds sorta bright on the 824s, it is a total ear bleeder on other systems.

You can clear up the bass a bit by putting them on machined cones.

I was thinking about getting a pair of 824s, but now.......

I have bad monitors now and I've had to go through a considerable learning period to adjust my mixes to their faults. I really don't want to have to do that with new monitors.

LOL Yeah teh debate rages. All in All Ethan is 100% Correct.

get the room right 1st then pick a monitor.

And an HD Accell system does not make a great room, just menas you have gear.

My Cousin has a FULL blown with every imaginable plug in know to GOD HD Accell system.

Sony DPEs-77 (if I have the right model #)

gene 1031's/1037's
Avalons, Sony Mic, etc.. you name it , he has it. Close to $500k in gear.

But his room, although it looks very nice, is acoustically NOT RIGHT.

So his wonder Genelecs sound like Orange midrange crap in that room.

So Get the acoustics right and then worry about monitors......

I have heard what people call busters sound nice in a properly built room.

BTW Just finished mixing another project and all the outside my door listeners love the mixes....

God I love my Mackies.

Bryan Giles

So If you want the Mackies, Go buy them.....

Yeah. Even where there's more or less general consensus about something on this board, other boards will have general consensus holding the opposite view. So don't buy them on the advice of the board, but if you lke them when you hear them, don't let the guys dissuade you either.

Personally, I think don't think they sound great in a "hi-fi" sense for the money, but i do think they're good tools with a short learning curve for getting "translatable" mixes and I'm not looking to switch.

I was negatively impressed by Genelec's I heard in a store, but upstream components, source material, environment . . . .

Useful or not, I could never stand listening to the midrange on the Yamahas, even when they were current.

I know that everyone has their own opinion about equipment. I like the posts where someone will say that something is utter shit, simply because they personally don't like the sound of it or something along those lines.

On average I've heard just as many negative things as I have positive about the HR824. Having heard them I can definitely tell that they have a definite low frequency push to them that a lot of other near-fields don't. I just don't know.
