Mackie 400F

This unit looks very interesting..

Right now I run a 1010 and use an Alesis mixer for some routing and monitoring. The mixer is crapping out more and more and I've been looking at newer solutions like this 400F. Although it's still not available. What do you guys think of thsese units? The converters are similar but a step up from the Delta 1010's.

If I remember right, the converters found in it, are actually MORE than a step up from Delta's, as it uses the same converters found in the Lynx Two, Metric Halo and Motu HD192 interface.

Looking at this a little more it appears Mackie is using the AKM 5385 A/D converter and the Lynx is using the highest end AKM 5394. I can't seem to find any info on the MOTU. I like how Mackie list's what converters they are using. The 1010 is using the AKM 5383, which is 96KHz compared the the Mackie which uses a 196 converter.

AKM call's the 5394 a super high performance A/D so I bet that one is rather expensive.

Do the headphone outputs on the unit provide for zero latency monitoring, you think?

Latency

They claim Near Zero Latency, But who doesn't. They do have a kickin onboard DSP chip. Here's what they say:

It uses advanced Arithmetic Logic Units (ALUs) that support combining multiple samples into one Very Long Instruction Word (VLIW), which significantly speeds audio processing and reduces latency. In fact, the DSP on the Onyx 400F is capable of fetching 8 VLIWs every cycle, to get the data from your sound source and into the computer at lightning-fast speeds. So fast, in fact, that it can process 192kHz audio bi-directionally at full channel capacity."
