Mackie 1604VLZ Pro tricks?

Does anyone own a 1604 and know any tricks of the board that I may have been missing? I use it for recording as well as for my main PA system.

(i know this is not about recording..exactly)
One thing is that I'm not sure the best way to run my monitor outs. Right now I use aux send 1 and adjust the level for each channel, which leaves me with no overall volume. I use aux 2 for my effects, aux 3 for my ear monitors. I run the main left and right to my EQ then to the amp.

I also want to find it there is a good way to use the channel assigns 1-2-3-4 that I may be missing.

It seems like I may not be getting full use out of my mixer. But then again, maybe it's just straightforeward.

Manual?

I have a 1402 VLZ and there are pretty good explanations of different applications for it in the manual,along with a glossary of basic audio terms.Is this not the case with the manual for your mixer?
