mackie 1604 vlz to 1824cd

I'm new to this recording stuff, so bear with me ;
I've got access to a mackie 1604 pro and I want to record drums thru it onto my 1824cd. What's the best way to do so. I've got 8 mics and would like to utilize 1-8 channels individually . Any help is appreciated.

Mics into the Mackie (channels 1-8)

Mackie channel inserts into the 1824 (channels 1-8)

You'll set levels using the trim/gain pots of the mackie (not the faders).

Will I be able to use eq. from mackie?

I'm not sure how the Mackies are wired or if there's a switch, but I can't on my Yamaha. I usually don't like to use EQ while tracking anyway, I like to do that while mixing.
