Would like to start recording music by computer. Any tips on which type of computer i should invest in?

What software do you want to run? I'd start with that and go from there. Mac or PC doesn't really matter. They are just tools. It's much more important to deal with a soundcard, mixer, preamps, effects etc etc...

Obviously PC's are cheaper so if your on a tight budget that may be the best choice.

Hey Londonirish...

If I were you and lived in England I would go to www.sospubs.co.uk and get a subscription to that magazine. It is called "Sound On Sound Magazine". On the website www.sospubs.co.uk you can go to FORUMS and they have a much more British population. This website is great for beginners, but it seems like the guys over at sospubs.co.uk are really on the pulse of the European music making scene.

Just a thought.

I bought a PC to dedicate for music. Why? It's MUCH cheaper to get the PC and all the goodies (some, which aren't even available for Mac, like the GT-Manager, which will talk to my GT-6, which is a floorboard effects/processor. That's just one example, too.)

Figure out what you want to do, then start shopping around for the different platforms.

Stick to PC...Just get something with an AGP slot so you can keep that s**t off the PCI buss.... A second HD is usually recomended, but I know several folks that are doing without one... Check out fasoft.com and the N-Track studio software before you plunk a hundred bucks on something else... The forum and new support site are worth the price of admission... You will be able to get more help than you can believe from those guys... They simply won't let you fail... For one just starting out, you can't do better....d'hawk
