Hello there,

I'm here with a dilemma. A couple of weeks ago I bought an M-Audio Nova mike with a Fame Microport XLR-USB adapter. I was told this was a great combination for use on my MacBook Pro. Unfortunately, I cannot get any sound out of the microphone/adapter. Even worse, MusicStore.de where I bought the kit does not accept returned microphones —don't ask me why. Now I'm stuck with what I have and would really appreciate tips/advice on getting the mike to work on my computer.
Oh yes, I'm no sound pro, I just wanted a good microphone for my podcasting.

Many thanks,
Chidi

It's more likely to be the adapter or a software/driver/setup/config issue that is the problem. Do you have the phantom power (48v) switched on?

Hi,

I've tried with the 48v switch on and off. Still no sound. As for drivers: this thing was advertised as needing no drivers.

Do you have (or can you borrow) another microphone to try out and see whether you start getting sound or not?

Correction...they have to take back the defective ones....they just cannot restock the good ones for health reasons...just do what you can to troubleshoot this...try the mic on a working system with phantom power...try another mic with the set-up...make sure you have everything installed right.

Hi antichef,

I borrowed a couple of regular usb microphones and they worked. Tomorrow I have a chance to test the equipment elswhere.

sounds good -- and darrin's right -- any return policy that refuses to accept microphones shouldn't apply to defective (especially DOA) units. You can't be completely sure it's the mic until you've tested it somewhere else (that is, with a different interface or preamp), in my opinion, though.
