M-Audio monitors or stick with my pc speakers?

i usually mix my songs on the speakers that came with my Gateway pc! Cambridge Soundworks, the drivers are full-range and are about 3 1/2 inch in diameter. they sound great, Hi's and Low's. my mixes sound great too. i have recorded atleast 50 song using them. i was planing on buying the "MAudio DX4 Active Nearfield Monitor"
http://www.zzounds.com/a--2676837/item--MDODX4 ....untill i saw them in person. they look kinda useless and amaturish. then i saw the "MAudio BX5 Powered Monitors" and the " MAudio BX8 Powered Monitors ". they look exactly the same! its just that the bx8 is a lil bigger than the bx5.

i dont really want to spend any money on monitors seeing how my mixes already sound good but just wanted to buy some to see if i was missing any thing? should i got with the BX8 or the BX5? is there a big diff between them?

oh yea, they recomend u buy a woofer for either choice. can i use my home theather woofer if i wanted? (i have the cheapest studio ever) but i achive hi quality recordings.... can u guys post some pic's of ur studio? low end studio's only

First off there's no reason to get excited about monitors looking the same. Most manufacturers have monitors of varying sizes that look identical. Now if you're making "hi quality" recordings already with just computer speakers then monitors would only make it better. I used to own bx5's and they were ok but I never really got a good mix on them, then I switched to some 8" Events and all my mixes came to life. They went from "eh" to "ah" in just one night. Still looking for those monitors to take me from "ah" to "ooo" and then "ooo" to "holy shit" but thats a few years and several thousand dollars off. Decent monitors will only help you more, I recomend some 8 inchers if you can but if not look at some of KRK's smaller monitors, they're very impressive for the size and price.

They shouldnt sound great, they should sound accurate. If they sound good on your system but bad on mine, thats not good if I am the buyer. Monitors in theory should be an accurate representation of what is going on. If you get a pair of kickass monitors, your stuff might actually sound worse.

If I wanted a good set of speakers for enjoying music I would go to a stereo shop. For making music I would go to the music store.

My studio looks like a computer I bought at Sams club. With a bunch of software. Oh, and monitors Tannoys to be exact.

I'm using a boom box with speakers that can be separated from the main box. I use them to mix my tracks and master my CDs. I'm perfectly happy with how my mixes and final CDs sound. My customers are perfectly happy. That's all that matters to me. I'm not trying to compete with Nashville pros. I'm not trying to make a living at this stuff. If you are, then maybe you need to buy all of the fancy high-end stuff. I don't know. I just know that *I* don't need it.
