I just purchased the 410 and Mpowered bundle but can't get the pro tools software to find the hardware. Whenever I try to launch pro tools it says " pro tools could not locate m audio hardware". I've been through the manual and looked on both sights and couldn't find anything. Any suggestions? Thanks alot

did you install any drivers that came with the 410?

if that happens, try unplugging the firewire cable and then plugging it back in...then press Okay on the screen and see if it finds it again.

or shut down PT and unplug-replug the able, then open PT again. sometimes it just doesn't recognize it as being plugged in. i think it happened the first time i installed too, then it didn't happen since.

I can't even get the pro tools to launch though. Is it safe to pull the firewire cable out of the cpu when it's running? Thanks for the help I'll keep trying.

no, it's fine. when it gives you that error, just unplug it and then plug it back in. the error message should have an "Okay" button so that when you press it, it will search for it again. otherwise just restart the program.

your audio interface unit isn't like a hard drive. it's not receiving any power or in the middle of sending/receiving information when you're starting pro tools up....unlike hard drives which can result in data corruption, etc.

also, not thinking you're stupid or anything....but make sure you have the unit powered on too, so that the computer sees it.

"Hot plugging" can be dangerous if you're supplying power through the 6pin firewire cable. I've heard of people's firewire 410's getting broken because of "hot plugging". If you're using an external power supply, and the 4pin firewire cable, then it might be ok to "hot plug". I think all this is mentioned in the manual.

On your firewire 410, is the blue power light flashing, or is it on constantly? Does your system tray firewire410 control panel work? Sometimes, for some strange reason, Windows doesn't even recognise that my 410 is plugged in. Restarting the computer seems to help.

as mentioned hot-plugging can be VERY BAD. there are numerous warnings with m-audio hardware underscoring this point. you run the risk of permanently damaging your hardware. a firewire audio interface is NOT like most other firewire devices that can easily be hot-swapped.

I was at a local music store setting up a new comp for them yesterday. I had some issues with M-Audio hardware and M Powered PT as well. PT would not recognize either the delta 44 or the Fast Track Pro. I went to M-Audios site and downloaded the newer driver set for both units and now PT uses either just fine:)

On another note, I am having a problem with the M-Audio control panels. Whenever I try and open the red one it says that there is no hardware connected, even though it is, and even being used. My gut tells me it has something to do with the older Delta 44 and its PCI card. It seems like the drivers on the 2 CD's (Delta 44 and Fast Track Pro) each installed their own control panel applet. ANy thoughts?
