M-Audio Fast Track´s instrument input

looks like two inputs with different purposes in mind for each. seriously, why would anyone waste an input even on a cheapo interface?
 
Well, this is cheapo. But, what is the quality of the recordings made with it?

It has a decent quality sound, nothing to be proud of or anything. I have a friend who bought one, and hates it, but makes quality recordings from it because he knows how to mix.
