Is this worth the $600? I want to record using Reason 4.0, Cubase 5.0, an M-Audio Oxygen 61, a basic presonis Preamp for my Mic and I am not sure which Mic I am going to use yet. Right now I have a Sound Blaster XFi Platinum with external sound module. I was planning to connect my oxygen via USB and Mic to a Presonics which would connect via USB as well. What capabilities would the Delta 1010 provide using just these components that the Sound Blaster couldn't? It just seem like a huge amount of money to spend for an audio card and external module that doesn't even have XLR inputs. Thoughts?

I've been happy with my 1010.

I share your pain on the less than stellar jacks in the Breakout Box but they are certainly adequate.

I love my Delta44 and would find the Delta1010 incredibly useful.
Do you have a need for all those inputs?

It's a dated design from the mid-late 90's. I like mine, but I bought it used. I suggest you do the same. PCI slots are becoming more and more scarce, which will be an issue when you eventually upgrade your PC.

Available in good condition on ebay from $200-$300.

It's a good sounding interface for the money (especially used). In the budget recorder's realm, it's probably not the interface which is your weak point anyway. You'd have to increase your budget to near the $1000 mark to get a good jump in quality from the Delta 1010.

$200-300? Wow. I feel lucky. Got a used one on Ebay for $100.

I was expecting a spectacular improvement from the stock card in my Dell.
No noticable difference to me.

Still, a good buy.

Bu what options does it give you?

First of all, I wouldn't even consider buying one new. There are plenty of good used ones around here for 200-250.

I think the main thing a 1010 would get you vs. the setup you described is more anaolg inputs, which it sounds like you don't need at the moment. You would only really need them if you were recording more than just yourself live, or a drum kit. But if it were, say, you and a friend, both singing and playing acoustics, you'd probably want at least four mics, and to record them all on separate tracks would require at least four analog inputs. I think usb still has a limitation of two simulataneous anaolg tracks. You can get more with firewire, and you wouldn't have to install a pci card, and it would be more portable (meaning you could move it from one computer to another), plus, you could use it with a laptop. Just some things to think about.

The 1010 is the breakout box version, not the version with all the RCA jacks. I've never seen a 1010 go for that cheap. Sure you didn't get the Delta 1010lt?

I've got a delta 44 and love it. I needed it to so i can play with friends at the same time, I used to only have one input. Its definetly good sounding, no latency and i've never had any bugs or software problems with it. I do have to use an M-Audio UNO for midi because the 44 doesn't have it, but that doesn't hurt my setup at all.

Get a used one like they said.

About Tweaks review:
I don't know about the difference anymore, but my 44 uses software to switch from -10 to +4, not a manual button. And i can hook up my guitars and whatever else (except fantom mics) direct and they sound good.
