M-Audio BX8 Studiophile vs. Event TR8-N Tuned Reference Monitors

Does anyone have strong opinions regarding one or the other of these products?

M-Audio BX8 Studiophile Powered Monitor Pair

Event TR8-N Tuned Reference Monitors

I want to buy a pair of bi-amplified studio monitors for under $500 for a home studio. I am specifically looking at these two models. Has anyone compared these two models against each other? Obviously I know I need to go listen in person, but is anyone strongly pro or con either one of these specific models?

Here are some product links:

Please let me know if you have any actual personal experience with either of these monitors, or any strong opinions either way. Thank you!

Yo George:

There is a nice review of 5 types of monitors, including the Events, in the latest issue of EM magazine. You might even be able to access the article via the net to EM.

I'm using Yorkville passives; however, am about to buy a pair of Yorkville actives.

Green Hornet :D

my guitar player ordered the TR8's and they should be here today (fingers crossed) Im looking forward to it- I let ya know when we get em. Right now we have no montiors so they gotta be better than that right?

One would hope so...

I would be interested in hearing your opinion on them as well. I am leaning towards these monitors for a first set. I listened to them at guitar center a while back and they sounded pretty good, but my room is gonna be different than GC.

thanks

Ive heard good things about Event here and other places- good- reliable tough- Ive been warned to listen for lacking or un-true low mids- this seems to be a theme with powered monitors this size- cause i think ive heard that said about some others in the price range too- never showed up today so hopefully wed or thurs.- i'll keep ya posted

I used to have the SP-5Bs and just bought the BX8s the other day. I wasn't able to get any low end response out of the 5's, but the BX8's are great. They sound good to me, and the bass response is great. I can finally hear the really low stuff.

I have no experience with anything else to compare them to, and admittedly I am no prefessional engineer. Still, I don't think anyone would be disappointed with the BX8.
