Anyone ever used this thing. It has digital out and usb. It is supposed to have good preamps but I don't really trust the reviews from manufacturer websites.

Let me know

I have a Delta DMP2 preamp that uses the same circuitry as the Duo's preamps and these these are nice....very clean and crisp.....i think they just shipped those Duo's out this week.....

for $259 you are getting a $200 preamp plus connectiblity to your computer (no soundcard needed)...thats what i call a bargain.......

i hope you're right Gidge. i just got a laptop for christmas and i was going to get the VXPocket and a mic-pre, but i'd much rather have the Duo... only it hasn't shipped yet.

AudioMidi.com is showing that it started shipping a few days ago.....

Cool man...let me know what you think...I'll probably be getting one around Feb 22nd.

i like the Duo. it's not perfect, but it works well. the pre-amps sound good, but the software drivers still need some work.

if the software drivers were great, but the hardware sucked, i would have sent it back.

i can't get it to record in 48khz/24bit using WDM drivers, but i can using MME. but MME drivers have slower latency.

id think twice before investing in usb...latency can be a real problem and the format can be unstable.

like you i also have a laptop which severly limits our soundcard options... i thought about going firewire because that is the wave of the future but right now only a few companies have invested in the format, chiefly being motu which im not terribly crazy about.

so ive finally narrowed my choice down to RME audio. After i purchase their pcimia card and the 24bit multiface box to accompany it ill be spending around $900 for a topnotch soundcard.

ive been also researching others and event has finally come out with a solution for laptops also using the existing mona and layla soundcards. Both units ship at around $900 dollars also and could be a viable solution.

Ultimately, i believe youll regret purchasing the usb interface and if you save for something such as the RME products you'll have a some pro equipement that will serve your needs for many years to come.

hope this helps,
Zack

My AudioSport Duo will be here today. UPS tracking said it is in my town. I can't wait. I am also getting a pair of MXL603's. I wish I could get an oppurtunity to try all this stuff out on some choirs and the symphony here but I don't exactly have a mobile set up yet. I don't have a laptop, and I will be building a computer for mobile purposes, but I have to wait on my TAX RETURN.

CrossStudio - What OS do you use?? Maybe that could be a factor? I'll let you know if mine installs ok and what my first impressions are of it.

I have now done a bit of testing with this.

First my comp specs
Athlon 1ghz
256mb pc133 ram
30 gb 5400 rpm drive
WIN XP

The MME drivers are WDM drivers, look in the manual. The other available option is ASIO/EASI drivers. ASIO only work with certain programs such as Cubase or Logic. MME is what Sonar and Cakewalk use.

I don't any of these. I use Cooledit Pro 1.2a and SoundForge 5. I had no problems whatsoever installing this device. I plugged it in, and WinXP found it immediately and installed stuff for it. I then installed its post install stuff and Voila! I had it working. I tried it with my 2 603's and it worked fine. Very clean sounding. I have only used 16bit and 44.1khz so far though. I'll try some 24bit later. I like it so far very easy and sounds good.

No latency problems for me. Is there some way to measure latency so I could give you some exact numbers?? Anyone know?
