I have a digidesign 002 interface, and only have 4 preamp channels available, yet I would like to track my drums with 6 channels. Is this Audio Buddy 2 channel preamp good enough to track my last two drum channels with? Any opinions/advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys, and I look forward to the day that I can actually have some knowledge to possibly share with you, but for now I'm Dr. Newbie! Peace!

I haven't used the buddy, but I have read that it might not have the headroom to handle the volume of drum tracks, unless they were relatively quiet drum parts. I guess the only way to find out is to try it and see if you can get away without any clipping.

Welcome to the board.

Hey thanks for the welcome! So what about the M-Audio DMP3, would it handle drums better?

Most definitely. That's what I was about to suggest you look at. The Audio Buddy seem to have a few issues, such as not having enough phantom power and being easily overloaded. I don't know why people recommend them at all because it is not in the "keeper quality" range if you ask me. Some people seem to get them because they absolutely NEED some extra channels fast, but it's probably more worthwhile just to buy the cheapest mixer you can find in that case. If you got an Audio Buddy, in all likelihood, you would probably end up basically throwing it out and replacing it with something like a DMP3.

Always remember: buy cheap, buy twice.

Good choice. I use a Digi002, and I've got 4 pretty good outboard channels (Avalon AD2022/Joemeek twinQ), but I'm currently recording a live studio project into a Roland VS1824CD, which is needed to do 10 live tracks plus talkback. The DMP-3 provides the other 2 channels, and it works just fine. I actually use an Audiobuddy with my Korg PXR4 Pandora as part of an attache case size studio, and it works OK, but the DMP-3 is simply a better, more versatile preamp, well worth the price.-Richie
