I'm going to be recording single tracks in stereo (guitar), one at a time, and some MIDI with a MIDI keyboard.

I do this on my PC.

This is my setup:

Microphones -> 2 channel preamp (audio buddy) -> Interface

Will the M-Audio 24/96 be enough for this? I will need 1/4-RCA cables to go from my preamp to the soundcard, right?

Each RCA input on the 2496 is mono, is this correct?

This is going to just be a very small/cheap setup to record ideas.

Thanks.

You got it.

Your setup will do just fine.

And yes, each input is mono. You are understanding things correctly.

All of a sudden

I want a grilled cheese sandwich.

My arteries thank you. :D

Good luck, and have fun!

Thanks, I just wanted to be sure I wasn't missing anything before I bought it.

If you hadn't added that I would have suggested you step up to the DMP3, but if its just ideas for songs...audio buddy should work just fine.
