If an LX-20 is fed a 24 bit signal via the lite pipe, does it record it without losing bits?

If this is true then does it play it back at 24 bits through the Lite pipe Outputs?

OK, so it truncates it to 20 bits, that is better than the 18 bits that the A-D converter in the unit uses.

Where do you get the idea that the 20-bit LX or the 20-bit XT are really 18-bit???

Bruce

Somewhere I read recently in a description of the unit that A-D was at 18bits and D-A was at 20 bits. I think it was in an Ebay description.

Well.. that info certainly goes against Alesis published spec. It is all 20-bit.

Bruce

.........unless you are referring to the Type 1 ADAT models that has
bit A/D-DA.

What's up my brutha' Bruce!? I'm gonna send you an e-mail in
re: to The East Coast Convention Recordings we made back

Hey Q!

Yeah, the gig was good, but all night I was thinking "man, I could be in New York right now!!!"

Ah well... whad'ya'gonna'do... committments, eh?

I'll be checking my mail!

Cheers Q

All 20 bit ADATs have 20 bit converters, except the M20 which has 24 bit A/Ds.

The 16 bit ADAT XT had 18 bit converters.

Think about it....why would a manufacturer use LESS resolution in the converters than what the deck can store?? ;)
