I've used this kit on many different recordings and live. Some recent soundmen comments:
"I wish that kit was up there instead!" - in NYC when referring to a Yamaha backlined kit, then seeing mine set-up backstage.
"That is the absolute best kick I've ever miced." - in Buffalo right after a show in a small club.
"Thank god for decent sounding toms. I guess I can keep the Drumagog samples put away for this session." - during a recent recording session in Buffalo.
I'm only selling this kit to fund cases for a new kit. Otherwise I'd hang onto it because it sounds so good!
Specs:
mid-90s 6 Ply All Maple Classic w/ Long Mach Lugs - THICK shells!
Emerald Green Shadow
24x14 Virgin Bass drum
10x9 Virgin Rack tom w/ Rims mount
12x10 Virgin Rack tom w/ Rims mount
14x12 Virgin suspended Floor tom w/ Rims mount
Issues:
Bass drum hoops are vintage Niles Slingerland. They're a little scraped up and a tiny bit out of round, but in good shape.
Tension rods in the front are replacement key style. (T-rods in this length are no longer available, but pop up on Ebay from time to time. The regular classic 4 1/2" T's are too short, mach lugs require extra long T rods.)
Bass drum has small outer ply lift that I didn't put down so great. (Gorilla glue expands. Who knew?!) Anyhow, it's only about a 1" by 2" section, and it's permanently down now. If you're handy, you could probably redo it properly.
A couple scrapes and sratches here and there, but nothing at all major.
1 bass drum leg is bent, but still works. Replacements are $30.
Other stuff:
The toms all have cases, the bass drum does not. The 10 and 12 will come with Humes & Berg Vulcanized fiber in good shape, the 14 will have a nearly new SKB Roto Molded case. Cases are worth about $150.
Ludwig toms of this era came with two badges, due to the posibility of you mounting the tom on the left or the right. This one has the second set of badges removed and replaced with threaded die cast vents. It used to have internal mics, so this was a necessity. Unfortunately, the badges that were removed were the badges with the serials on them. The kick still has the serial badge.
The Old Style RIMS mounts alone are worth at least $100. They currently have Pearl mounts on them. (7/8" post)
6-ply Classics are rare, virgin 6-ply Classics are extremely hard to come by.
All heads have under 10 hours of use on them. Evans Hydraulic glass on the toms, Aquarian Super Kick II with double kick pad on the bass.
I will take the best offer over $650. Otherwise I'm just going to hang onto them. E-mail me if you're interested. graphicrage@yahoo.com
I'd REALLY prefer if you picked them up in Buffalo, but we can discuss shipping.
Here's a picture without the 10" tom mounted.
