low volume when recording bass?

I'm running my bass guitar through a Sansamp Bass DI to my Delta 66 audio card. I'm using Cool Edit Pro for multitracking. The VU meters show a good signal but I'm not getting a good amount of volume. If I leave everything the way it is and just hook up my drummachine to it, I get fine volume. It is just with bass through the Bass DI that I'm not getting good volume. If I run the DI to my bass amp it does fine though. Any ideas?

Just a guess, but maybe when you DI the bass you're recording some loud, very low frequencies than your speakers aren't reproducing which leads you to believe you don't have much of a signal. A lot of stage amps don't reproduce VLFs because they are engineered to cater for non-lab situations - i.e. gigs! Try some in-line EQing to drop off the sub 60hz freqs and see if that helps.

Mark.

I dont have monitors yet so I'm using my Aiwa stereo system for playback. I'll try running the DI directly into the Aiwa and see if it can reproduces the bass. The Sansamp bass DI is made for live and for recording so I think it should work. When I put the level on the DI to almost max the volume was quite better but I dont want to blow the input. I'm comparing the volume to my drum machine which works fine. I usualy use the input on the drummachine for my guitar and bass when I record because the outs on the drummachine are already hooked up to my Delta 66 and I also get a stereo track this way (the drummachine has a left and right outputs.) I've heard of a new EQ plugin for Cool Edit Pro, do you or anyone else know anything about this plug in? Thanks!
