Would those who are plagued with low ceilings and treated them, mind posting some pictures for inspiration.

Particularly I have read Larrye had a similar problem he was going to treat.

Thanks

Ryan,

Believe it or not, the best thing you can do acoustically for a low ceiling is to apply 705 rigid fiberglass board and space it away, thereby making the ceiling even lower. The more fiberglass you use and the larger the air gap, the higher the ceiling seems to be acoustically.

Obviously this is not a good idea if the ceiling is already so low that tall people have to duck. :) But if the goal is to simulate being in a room with high ceilings, adding high performance absorption to the ceiling is the best way to achieve this.

Ryan,
I don't have any pictures, but I'm going to be working on the front wall and ceiling next. Maybe we can get ideas going.
What kind of ceiling do you have now? Is it finished at all e.g. dry wall etc..

I made a polycylindrical panel and hung from the ceiling for diffusion and it woks great. My space is combined control and recording area so I'm tying not to make it too dead, yet controlled so I know whats going on for mixing. Other than that its insulated
between ceiling joists and finished with acoustical panels.

Ethan,

How about hanging 705 panels from the ceiling? Would it make a difference if reflective material was above that? Your design is a sealed unit, which helps to get the frequency to a lowered hz yes? How about using the 1/4 wave length math and hanging the panels. I understand that it may need to be about 3' to get to bass freq's( generally speaking), but how does that relate to a low ceiling? uh.. I mean does low frequency's tend to be more problematic than mid & high freq's even on a low ceiling? I figured there may be more initial reflections of mid & high freq's due to proximity, but what do I know...

current plan

I am getting to the point where it is time to build all of these treatments and start making music.

I attached what I am now planning to do after reading a lot. I plan to fill the back corners with regular insulation and the side units as well, except for the bottom panel absorber which will be 703.

Looking at your plan, I think the side reflectors are angled in the wrong direction. The way you have them angled, they'll be reflecting right back toward the mixing position. I believe you want them angled the other way, so that the reflections make the room wider, not narrower.

I also wonder if you have too much stuff going on in such a small space, but that would be a question for folks MUCH more advanced than me.
