Low audio input level with Edirol ua-25

Hi ya'll!

Im trying to record audio in cubase with my Perception 200 microphone through an Edirol ua-25 soundcard. However, the input volume is very low, and if I turn the sensibility up on the soundcard, audio begins distorting when recorded. My os is Windows 7.

I would love some help, since I'm very new to the world of audio recording. So if anyone has had this problem, or knows how to fix it, please let me know!

you did turn phantom power on, right?

What cable are you using to connect the mic to the interface? Generally XLR to TRS cables will bypass a devices preamps (line level). Where an XLR to XLR cable will use the preamps (and supply phantom power when selected) (mic level). Plus a number of knobs in-between. Some hardware, some software.

or maybe you are just trying to record wrong input.
