Loud Crackling Noise

So sometimes when I open a project in Cubase LE 4, one channel will crackle so loud that it is tossed to the top of the meter and is almost deafening. If I mute the track, it stops and after a few minutes, the track will be fine and everything plays as it was. Does anyone know what this is and how to fix it?

Do you have anything running on it? Sometimes I get an incredible amount of noise if im running alot of compressors on one bus

Only as EQ and reverb. It maxes out the meter so I mute the channel (usually happens on a group channel but sometimes on an individual tracks) but then after a minute or so it stops.
