I just bought and installed sonar X2 64bit. It did not recognized some of my VST plugins eg. T Rack3, Drumagog 5, and most of my Wave plugins that i was already using in my previously installed Sonar X1. I have tried rescanning but it does not work. Is there anything i can do, has anyone experienced the same problem. Thanks in advance for your help.

Probably because your old plugins were 32-bit. You need to use some kind of program, to make them usable in a 64-bit version of Sonar. I don't use Sonar myself, so can't give you a direct link as to what would work for you. 64-bit DAW, and 32-bit plugs, do not work together well...

Unless there is a direct need for you to use the 64-bit version, then install the 32-bit version, and you will have all of your plugins back.

Bitbridge is bulit into Sonar so your 32bit plugins should work. My 32 bit plugins work in Sonar X2a 64Bit.

Is there any way to verify bitbridge, or to get it independently. Also is there is a big difference between the 32 and 64 bit versions. thanks again for your interest.

Always wondered about using 32bit stuff with my 64bit version. My 32bit works, I use Sonar x1, with no problems, but I tend not to use the 32 bit stuff.

I've seen the bit bridge loading when initial scanning is being done, didn't know what it was.....

To add to Glens question, I'd re-install the plugins. Don't know what else to do......

Is there a distinct advantage in using 64bit over the 32bit version of X2

i might be mistaken but I believe that 32 bit programs can only utilize around 4 GB's of ram even on a 64 bit operating system...

Yes, but unless you have a reason to need more (extreme use of VSTi's and such), there really isn't a need. Not in my experience anyway. It just depends upon whether you need use of more ram.

well sometimes i'm rocking like 9 instances of Omnisphere which eats it up, not to mention everything else in a project , effects, etc...I've got 24 GB's of RAM and still get choppy for a couple seconds sometimes :(

That is exactly my point. It depends upon what the OP's needs are.

100 audio tracks, will not eat up so much. Instrument tracks will.

Having used Sonar for many years, I enjoy 64 bit, but it does seem less stable. One advantage of X1 and X2 64 bit is the "precision engine".

From the Cakewalk website:
The 64-bit Double Precision Engine provides greater resolution, meaning more accurate audio reproduction and more headroom. You'll especially notice the benefits of the 64-bit Double Precision Engine when working in large projects containing many audio tracks and plugs-ins. Your chances of clipping will be significantly reduced.

The 64-bit signal path includes plug-ins and buses. SONAR sends and receives 64-bit data to and from all plug-ins that accept 64-bit data. If a plug-in requires 32-bit data, SONAR will automatically handle the conversation.

Glenroy - check the obvious things first. Are the directory paths for the missing plugs in the VST paths list in preferences? Did you rescan for VSTs after updating the path list?

Bitbridge works - so long as the plug is well behaved. plugs that don't properly implement the VST standard can cause real problems - including crashing Sonar and the evil BSOD.

There are some VSTs and DXi that will not run on a 64 bit OS. Not a Sonar 'problem' but there is no cure for this. You just loose them.

Check to see if there are updates to your plugs to run properly in the new environment. Failing that, it might be time to write them off as being old-dead unsupported programs (like WordPerfect and Lotus 1-2-3).
