i'm a musician or a dinosaur, whichever works. i'm just way behind on all the new programs out and i've recently purchased the acid pro 4.0 and i haven't been able to hear a note of music yet , save the demo.i just found the instruments but now i can't seem to pick and drag or place anywhere.

Double click one of the loops/samples that you want to use, a track will appear .... then select either the pencil or the paintbrush ... click and hold the mouse button and draw or paint in the the loop/sample into the time line.

thx crankz1 for the reply but i can't even find a loop. i've gone to a new file the page is blank. dn at the btm left, i click on mixer - where the fx, buss and the insert soft synth icons are. i click on soft synth and another page comes up - soft synth chooser, i click on ok and low and behold the voices appear, but i can't do anything with them.

can't find loops

Hi.....hopefully you have it up and running now.....but make sure you have a loop CD in the drive, bring up the explorer window in Acid.......find your loops.......click on one that you want to hear......double click to put it in your project.......paint it in. I hope you can understand my dribble.
Good luck. Let us know.

Im having trouble with acid 3.0

I usually just mic a small guitar amp, and record one track at a time on acid.drum machine, bass, then guitar.I mixed a track a few days ago, now i dont have any record volume(i cant turn it up or down on the volume settings)....i hope i havnt fried my sound card??

lynn i think you hit the nail on the head. i went to the explorer window to look for the loop cd in drive and never even saw the word "loop". thx for your reply, but i sure could use another one.

Yeah .... as msgrape said,
You need to have either a CD of loops or have them stored on your hard drive.
At the bottom of Acid, you should have Tabs for things such as ... Chopper (for creating loops or one shots) .... Mixer (kinda self explanatory) ... and Explorer (this is where you will navigate through your computers CD and/or Hard drive for loops and one shots). If you don't see the Explorer pane ... click on View at the top of Acid and select Explorer.
On your Acid CD you should have a folder called sound essentials (or something like that) .... in that folder you will find all kinds of loops. Also other loop CD's can be purchased from Sony and multiple other sources.
Here is a Google search for Acid Loops .

Hope this helps

To insert a Midi track you can either go insert, midi track or press ctrl+alt+Q to do it (which is faster for me). Then double click on the MIDI track to bring up the editor. Then you can draw MIDI events. If you want to record them live with a midi keyboard you can press record then select midi from the menu. Best of luck to you. I think that once you have your basic understanding of Acid then you'll fall in love with it.

new thread

i guess......... i should have started a new thread  Everyone's ignoring my question

Perhaps you could elaborate a little more on your problem. Are you able to load loops but not hear them? Or are you not able to find loops? Or are you able to find loops but not ad them to your session? Are you adding them to the session but forgetting to paint them into your score? I just can't visualize your problem without more information. Are not looking for loops? Are looking for VST instruments? Do you want midi or loops? We're not sure.

If you can still hear sounds from the card ... it pry ain't fried.
Try recording a new project and see if you have control over the recording volume. Bear in mind that you must set your recording level via the mixer applet for your soundcard (Windows Mixer if this a consumer card). Also be certain that you have the input you are using enabled.
Might help if you post the exact steps you go through when you do a recording and what soundcard you use.

no control over the record volume

Im running a c media 8738 sound card. i have no control over the record volume(in windows or acid), i can't turn it up or down in windows. An the acid record volume is just barely crackleing, but its showing green where it is monitored at about 33 and 42 dbs.Even when i unplug the mic...it still does this.i can listen to music.... and use my mic all day long, i just can not record.

The c media ... is that an internal sound chip (on board)?
What type of computer? Laptop?
What input are you using? Mic In or Line In?

Read the first post in this thread and be certain that you have the proper input enabled and the fader for that input adjusted for a decent level.
