I've done 4 versions of this in the last 24 hours. Here are two versions with radically different guitar sounds.

I personally like #3 better than #4 although it's almost too thick. It has more of a Joe Pass kind of a tone. If you cut a bit of the low-mid freq I think it would fall in line. On #4, I hear quit a bit of hiss but it's the thinness, not the hiss that I personally don't care for.

Hey dude,

I'd go for #4 MINUS the hiss.........although, I think you could make #3 sound sweet with a little bass eq cut (as mentioned by TrackRat),

Find the sweet spot of your amp/mic and when your pleased with the represented sound on the recording, fix what ails it with post tracking.....................( I know, "no shit theron, thanks for nothing!")

I like your vocal phrasing, is this a cover?

I tried to help. Hope I didn't hurt your progress too much:)

Nice listen,

Theron.

Here's yet another version that I recorded this morning. It cleans up the guitar quite a bit and I think gets a little more balance.

Hey Jim,

I listened to the previous two in comparison to the latest and I like the latest. Strikes me as the best yet. You've taken care of "hiss issues" and have a nice, authentic tone going on..........

Keep in mind that, I don't have a great ear but, I like the latest rendition and I will reittterate that I dig the vox.....

Care to share your git chain?

Theron.

It's a Schecter USA Custom Sunset-7 (7 string) through one of the preset patches on a Yamaha DG stomp. I finally got around to reading the manual and it's helping. :)
