I just installed M-Audio Revolution 5.1. (Took away my other card and removed its drivers). Some things play. CDs for one, though Windows Media Player.

I can monitor things from mic or line through Revolution BUT can't seem to record them in Cool Edit Pro. Computer defaults are set to M-Audio Revolution 5.1 for recording and playback.

SKYPE won't hear me either.

Does anyone have any idea WTF?

Sure would appreciate some help.

I have rebooted several times. Installed "latest" driver from M-website.
2GB RAM, 2.6MHz processor, lots of hard drive open.

It's gotta be simple - always is.

Thanks!

Bob

I think Skype needs some tweaks on it's audio set up.
Try to do it manualy. I remember I had to do that when switching from SB Live to M Audio F410.
Hm, Cool edit MAYBE needs the same. You have probably done this but something is still missing. Have you tried to choose recording input in yuur session?
I don't remeber details around Cool Edit but maybe checking boxes in preferances/options was not enough. Try to do it in multitrack just for fun.
My wife uses the same PC a lot so I decided to install my old SB Live card back and today we use both cards.
She is running Skype, MSN, WMP and everything else on SB Live.
I use M Audio for my audio software only (Audition 2.0, Cubase SX2, Melodyne, etc.)
Everything is working fine. She is happy and I don't worry about she touching any knobs on my M-Audio.

Chose EVERY option

And combination of options too. (I think.)

Skype just wouldn't 'see' M-audio output. Neither would CEP. I want to record from CD to CEP... and also, in another session, use line input as record source.

But I am relieved that you have both cards working successfully as that was plan B... M-Audio for recording/listening, Audigy for Skype. But, with both drivers and soundboards loaded, and choosing either for Skype, neither was heard. I also tried using one for record the other for playback.... zilch.
I thought for that to work I'd need 2 sets of record controls and two sets of playback controls. Only saw one set.

I know this is going to sound very stupid but anyway:
Do you have a wireless network card installed on your computer?

Hm.
I would uninstall CEP if I were you, and made your M-Audio card as standard for your system.
(Deactivate other card or even better, take it out just temporarely)
Do reinstall CEP)
I am sure CEP is going to set up everything nicely according to that card.
You can add the other card after and make sure it will not take over all functions from M-Audio)
Good luck!

Will sikter save the day?

Tune in here next week to find out, and in the meantime...

What do you think Bob means by 'recording from CD to CEP'? Think he's trying to rip a CD?
