What so damn special about Protools?

I loose more clients because i don't use this program than I do to my sound quality.

Most of them won't even give me a second thought after i say i use Cubase and don't even bother asking about the sound quality of my recordings

Get one of those M-Box things or whatever they're called.

Then you can say that you have ProTools. :D

Then, you can just not use it.

It is stupid, isn't it... :(

Ya I was kind of teed off when this guy calls me and says hey man how much will you charge me to record a song....

I say 50 bucks and I will make a beat to your liking ,record and mix with you all day till its right.

He says wow man what you using over there?

I say a Triton and a MPC...

He says you got Protools right?

I tell him no but I can get just as good quality recording using Cubase.

He got all rude and said I don't rap on nothing but Protools and hung up on me.

I mean here I am offering studio time at crackhead prices and peeps don't even care about the quality all they want is Protools

Then be glad you don't have to work with a moron like him.

big. its happened a million times.

do you have this "X' mic, or 2 inch multitrack, or ssl console, or whatever??.
its just all marketing. so dont feel bad. the guy just was not intelligent enough to figure out that the software is one small part.
actually , if you think about it , and its a trend ive been predicting for a while. if every young kid or newbie setting up a studio believes he needs pt
- then whats going to happen is there wont be enough money for studios to make a living because there will be a zillion pt users all competing for fee's .
this will also hurt the pt base of old clients of pt - the big studios.
think on.

Perhaps he was the “competition” checking to see what you have and had no intentions of booking time. ...Or he was the Know-it-All type who would have told you how to do your job the whole session anyway. Either way, you are better off without the headaches. Let him go. That’s not what creating music is all about. You are there to help those who want to be helped. Not to serve that handful of jerks who thinks the world owes them something.

Someone probably told him that PT is the best so now he is trying to impress people with his new knowledge. I mean, those who know nothing about computers are usually the ones spreading around all the "scare" rumors about viruses and such.

The next time someone asks that, ask if they use some special piece of gear to make their music.

Good Luck

i blame the rap/hiphop industry.
how many music videos have you seen with rappers in the studio and Pro Tools in the background. Same thing with an SSL. Every friggin' video has one of those with the hiphop artist "mixing" on it. And every kid who wants to get into the business thinks that's what it takes to "make beats".
Just tell him to worry about writing the music and you and the rest of the engineers in the world will do the arguing as to what gear is the best to use...since that's what you're paid for.

Ive noticed that a lot of people only want it because they are misinformed. I have alot of people tell me, (after I tell them I dont use protools), that they are doing an on going project, but it is all in protools, so they cant use my studio.
