Loop Pedal.

Slowing becoming un-noob.
Any suggestions?
I've heard the Boss loop station is a good one. Yet that's a little expensive for me.
I was thinking under $300.
I play experiment rock. More on the side of rock, not really ambient at all...
I'm in a two piece (guitar/drums) and I figure a loop could add some layers.

I was thinking maybe the RC-2.

Try for a used Gibson Echoplex, it's really the only looper that won't leave you frustrated. I found the BOSS RC-20 was pretty good if you're doing traditional looping - recording the chords then playing overtop of the chords like traditional multi-tracking. Any ambient/noise songs were very difficult (impossible) to get on the RC-20.

I actually just picked one of these up about a month ago.

It is a LOT of fun to play with, and it was less than $300 ($250).
The only downsides are that it doesn't have a lot of fancy extra functions (only one loop at a time; you can overlay onto it, but you can't undo; reverse; half-speed; and that's about it) and it distorts a little bit.

But I play grungy and distorted anyway, so I don't really mind the distortion! :D
 
I have one of the RC10s I think that is what it's called.

It does a lot for $179.00. I really think anyone on this forum would
be using DAWs not these gizmo's for recording though.
 
I had a lot of success using the loop function of a line 6 DL4. It's got 14 seconds of loop time but it can be "tricked" into giving you 28 seconds if you really think you need it. The DL4 will give you a delay along with the the loop if you need/want it. I liked using it.
 
28 seconds? Bah. JamMan can go SIX HOURS of loop time, with a big memory card.

If you ever need six hours of loop time for a single song, I'm pretty sure I never want to hear you 12+ hour song. Ever. :D
 
I use a JamMan and have about 50 songs in it where I use it for backing tracks. Just wish it was stereo.

That's why the 6 hours can be handy.

I wouldn't want to have to play it, OR listen to it. But those 6 hours can be split up any way you want- one six hour song... six, one-hour songs... 120 3-min. songs... whatever. You could lay down backing rhythm guitar and/or bass tracks ahead of time, then just you and the drummer take the stage...

If you wanted stereo, you could run the JamMan to something that is stereo, like a RP-7.

So true. Unfortunately, Atlanta does not allow buskers at MARTA stops (I believe Seattle regulates them via free licenses, or something?) so I am not in the frame of mind, to think of that. Pity.

But, wow, a looper would be a busker's best friend, wouldn't it?

Yah, I picked up my JamMan a year or two ago and I am still figuring out new ways to use it. The thing rocks.

It probably depends on what's available power-wise.

The Boomerang needs to be plugged in; I'm pretty sure there's no battery option.

I imagine those six-hour jam man's don't have a battery either.
 
my friend has a converter for a car battery, it's pretty awesome. but it's fucking dangerous.
 
I spent all weekend trying to figure out how to loop using Ableton sans FCB1010 and got almost nowhere. That Digitech is looking pretty sweet now.
