I am looking to upgrade my "home studio". Its currently pretty pathetic, hence the upgrade. For starers I will list what I currently have:
Lexicon Alpha USB interface
Yamaha p-90 electric piano
Yamaha midi interface
MU Tools as a DAW
Stereo Speakers as monitors
Computer:
Windows 7 64 bit
3.4 GHz quad core processor
8GB RAM
My main problem is latency when running VST instruments. Since the Alpha doesn't have a midi interface, I had to buy the Yamaha interface. So the signal goes through the first interface, is processed by MU Tools, sent out to the Alpha and out my speakers.
What do I need to upgrade in order for me to play VST instruments in real time?
Also, I'm looking to step up to a real DAW. Which is the most intuitive to learn? I've heard good things about Pro tools, Sonar, Cubase, and Reaper. However, I had an opportunity to play around on Cubase LE 4 and it did not seem user friendly.
My local music store is having a huge sale on March 1st, any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!
