Yeah, I know that there is software on the cd that comes with a new keyboard. But I don't have that CD. Is there a way I can download those programs/drivers for my keyboard for Mac? Right now, my mac doesn't recognize my keyboard when plugging it in via USB.

EDIT: I found on that site some downloads that might help. Thanks!

You should check for some user forums for Yamaha keyboards. I know that Roland and Ensoniq both have some Very Helpful user forums that have helped me a lot over the years for some of my keyboards.:)

Yeah, I'm pretty sure Yamaha has all those drivers online. My co-writer has a yamaha home piano deal and we got her usb stuff going with the online drivers.

Will something like this work fine?

I have a yamaha S08. I don't have the CD that usually comes with it. I'm not sure if that CD had drivers on it or something...are there?

So will that cable I linked to work fine?
Is there something else you'd suggest?

Thanks!

That might work, but I think you would be better off using a standard USB cable between the USB ports on your computer and the S08, as MIDI to USB cables can introduce problems. You will need to install the driver on your PC. If you use windows:

Don't know whast you intend to do with the connection. Doing the above should allow you use the S08 as the sound source when playing back MIDI files on the PC, and use the S08 as a MIDI source when using PC sequencer software. There is likely also some yamaha "song-filer" software for doing simple file transfers, but doing that might be easier by just buying a smartmedia card reader doing it that way.

Tom

I have a mac. Any chance you have a link like that for OSX?

What I plan to do is use my keyboard to play my music and produce sheet music on the computer, via finale or sibelius. Since you were wondering.

Try here:

http://www.yamahasynth.com/download/midi_driver.html

This will give you a USB Midi driver for Mac OS X. Unfortunately, I don't believe there's a Mac compatible voice editor for the S08, but you should be able to use USB MIDI without any problems.

Good luck and let us know how it works!

Thanks! Yeah, if I really want to use the voice editor, I can switch over to windows. I have bootcamp installed and what not, so technically I have both windows and osx. Thanks again! I'll try it out sometime soon when I find time.
