Looking for some honest feedback on this mix

Hey guys,

Thanks so much for all the comments.
Here's the drum remix/dryer vocals.
I'd really appreciate thoughts!

Thanks again

There's a timing glitch with the 2nd guitar at around 0.11. The vocals are good, vocalist has a good tone. The snare is kinda nasty - it just sounds like white noise. Maybe replace with a more sympathetic sample...?

Wow, the samples are a huge improvement. Artist opinion trumps all I guess but this is much more interesting IMO.

The snare is now boring/standard. The old one sounded cooler in this song. Maybe try blending the two.

Thanks for the comments, this has been fun.
I plan on uploading more mixes for opinions and switch arounds in the future.

The artist still prefers the original mix, but a lot of other people prefer this new mix.
Either way, this has been fun for me.
On my end, it's nice to know how quickly I can turn around a mix based on outside opinion and aesthetic decisions.
I like being the kind of engineer that helps gets "the sound" the artist or producer is looking for.

I can't wait to do this again in that regard.

Talk soon!

Yeah, very live, very indie feel. Haha, I'm sure everyone has already said that.

I personally like the drum synths. I think it lends the song a very modern feel.

I love your hook 'Sometimes'..? Is that what he's saying? It's very pretty and very catchy. Also the 1st and 2nd line melodies in your verses. Very inspired!

I think the guitar sounds almost too full to the point where it becomes almost more of the centerpiece of the song than the lead vox themselves. Guitars: take up a lot of space both amplitude and EQ-wise; while Vox: are quite far back and almost sound like they're fighting with guitars for my attention.

I like where the bass is, I think it sits perfectly in the mix where it should be. And I love your shhhtsk kick.

I would Shazam this if I heard it on the radio.

Joe.

Hey guys, so I've got one more small change that's been made.
We changed the Pan Law in the master which seems to have changed the relationship between vocals and guitars a bit (since the guitars in the side channels).
I was curious to know if it actually comes across that way to anyone else, or if it really doesn't matter. haha.

This version is exactly the same as the 2nd mix, save the different pan law in the master.

I've looked into the timing issue that has been mentioned at the beginning of the song, but the performer really doesn't seem to mind it at all.
I think I've noticed what you mean during the run before the descending part, but it really doesn't bother me either.

I'll nudge it around and edit it down the road to see if it appeases any of the folks that have mentioned it. haha.

For now, let me know if I'm crazy about the pan law helping the vocals seem a bit upfront from the guitars. (or if that's just crazy talk).

It might be psychological but I like the post-pan-fix version more. If there's a difference it's subtle. (On headphones, so it might be more obvious on monitors.)

Edit: I did an ABX test, couldn't tell the difference.

It's definitely a very subtle change. It should push the side channels down a very little bit (guitars) and accentuate the mid channel a touch (mainly vocals).
(*If* it's working properly. Haha)

Anything more drastic would mess with the mix.

Thanks for the feedback. Any other comments would be greatly appreciated.
