Looking for some feedback

Cool song.

Sounds like it was tracked pretty good, its just very dry. Mix sounds pretty good to me. The hat is a little loud at times, but not horrible.

RoCK!

Nice Mix...

I think that you did a swell job on mixing the drums, the only thing I hear is that the crash or hat is a little loud, great job on the vocals, It's hard to mix that type of singing and to get it to mesh with the rest of the song....

Two thumbs up for you NL5

A think the mix is not very well balance...try compressing better the voice, because sometimes it get loss in the mix, then try adding somekind of effects on it.

The sound of the drums are almost overheads and Hit hats...try adding more the close mics, and pay atention to the bass and the bass drums...they are not glued together...
The guitars have a very nice sound!
I think you record the things well, but i think you can do a better job with that recorded material.

Cheers

Thanks for the feedback!

VSB - I agree, it sounds rather flat, but the guitars are direct, and the drums are only recorded so-so. I boosted the room mic on the drums, I think it helped a bit. Hats were a bit loud - I think my fader got moved on me.

Carter - Thanks, and I did back the crash off just a tad as well.

Marciano - I compressed the heck out of the vocals, and I think it sounds a lot better, it may be a tad loud now for this type of music. I also worked on the bass/kick just a bit, don't know if it hepled or not.

:D

I listened to both mixes, and will comment on the second one, as I like it better. Very New/almost Industrial sounding. I like the tune. Don't know if some verb, or chorus on the vocs would work or not, but they seem to stand out a bit. If that's the way it's supposed to be, ignore this. In the first one, they were too buried, so maybe you just need to tweak them a bit more. Sounds cool though. I like the rough feel to it.

Cool tune.

The song kinda tricked me a bit...right after that first pause I expected the song to provide a different tone and maybe louder. The gits sound pretty good for DI...it fits the song style. The drums have a catchy beat and sound pretty good...nice and dry.
With the drop tuning and the buzz from the DI, the git becomes more of a percussion instrument...guessing that's by design. Cool tune.

Chill that crash back a bit or reverberate it to set it back a tad.
The vox need Alot more processing. Theyre dry and uninteresting at this point.

Heavy heavy comression on the screams would help.

Dark delays and light chorus with the singing parts would be an improvement.

Drums need more weight, more 100hz "Whump", dont get carried a way with it though.

Still like the guitars and bass though.

Also, about those cymbals.

Use a parametric and do a big band boost through the frequencies to find that harsh (3k-8k?) frequency and dip it out a bit, its painful.

Happy mixing,

I think it sounded great NL5!!! How do you groing(growl/sing) like that, and keep your voice? It will always amaze me how you dudes do that! Good Vocals by the way!

And I paticularly liked the bass.

tite tune. I like the drums, the hat is dealt with already.
the guitar low end and the bass are eating into the thump of the kick and the bottom of the toms. maybe carve out a hole for the kick in them. vox levels need taming a bit.

Thanks Toki, Dave, and True!

Fin -

I think you listened to the first one, but I went ahead and added some chorus and delay to the vox. By "dark" I assume you mean to cut the high end of the delay, which is what I did - damped it at about 2.4k. (should it be even lower?)

Better.

The screams make more sense now.
Just as a rule of thumb, it is (IMO) best to whack the crap out of screams at all times. Plus a bright reverb with no reflections and a long but almost in-audible tail. This makes it so you dont have to have them up in the mix, but theyll still sit right.

I think id actually like to hear the fact that there is a delay on his vocal....
I mean...nothing to outrageous, but it would add some interest i think.

Thats the thing about delay, either its a tool to push back a part and have it sit right.....Or, it just an all out "effect".

Id like to see what it sounds like when both delay styles are exectued on his sing vox.

Also have you thought about bussing just the drums (not the overheads) into a compressor, or perhaps a limiter to give them more body and bombast?

Give it a shot, you might like it.

Good, once again. Try some of what Chris says with some verb, and let us hear it. (I'm just enjoying listening, and the progression of this track is cool....)

Dog - Thanks for the comments. Not sure about the vox - I did what Chris said on V3, maybe not heavy enough. (see my reply to giraffe)

VSB - Thanks! :D

Giraffe - Thanks for the comments. I do mix pretty dry, which is on purpose, but not proper - it is a problem I struggle with when mixing. I don't like to hear the effects too much, but when I listen to pro music and really pay attention, there it is. As far as being kind of dark, that is not really on purpose, and is also a main problem in my mixing. I am hoping on the next go 'round, things will liven up quite a bit. this is stuff that was recorded awhile back, and just got all the pieces finished a month ago. It is part of a full cd project that contains the "not so well recorded drums", and the DI that is in all the Blind Vision songs I have posted.

I am doing another quick mix with a even heavy vox treatment, and we'll see what you guys think. I'll put it up right after lunch.

Thanks. :D

Cool song. I listenend to v.3 and v.4. I like the guitars and vox in v.3 better, except for the overly prominent vocal S's and T's. I like the drumset sound a little better in v.4.

Thanks VSB and Tim.

One more thing and I'll let this one lie.

How does V3 compare with this -

Thanks.
