Looking for new interface

Hello! First post.

So, I've had an MBOX 2 forever. Time for change. I want to use a better pre-amp/outboard comp, but i can't bypass the damn preamp in my MBOX. What do you use? What do you think is the best for a modest home setup?

Also, i have a mac, currently using pro tools 8. Looking for something with more than 2 XLR inputs.
 
More than two inputs... how many do you really need? Do you see yourself tracking drums or a full band in the future?
 
oh, in that case you may want to go for a more long term thing which you wont need upgrading for a long time
 
I recommend the MOTU 896. You could find a used one for half price if you like!
 
Yeah, the Motu is great. It would definitely last you a long time. The Focusrite mentioned is also really good if you decide you want to go for a lower budget - I have one and I love it. Of course, you could always get two of the Focusrites and chain them together for an amazing 16 channels! :D
 
Or just go with 16 channels to start, with a Tascam US1800. Save the rest of the money for a GAP Pre 73, or RNP preamp. Knowing what I know now, that is what I would do. :)
