For the past few months I've been recording using the built-in microphone on my macbook. It's really terrible, and I own some very decent instruments and vocal mics that I should be putting to use. The best way I can think of interfacing this equipment is with a mixer. My budget is about $60, and this little guy is the best thing I could find:

It looks decent enough for the simple demos I'm trying to record, but I don't know a damn thing about audio equipment, I'm just a dumb musician. Anybody have any objections/alternate suggestions before I hit the "add to cart" button on this thing? It'd be much appreciated.

You'll still need to interface the mixer with your computer

I guess I would just get an RCA to 1/8 inch cable. Would that reduce the sound quality to the point at which using the mixer would be pointless and I could just as easily purchase a little 1/4 to 1/8 converter?

Pretty much. Your PC's stock soundcard is not meant for recording/music production. The M-Audio Fast Track linked above would be a much better option.

I just got my Alesis Linelink yesterday, so it's still in testing, but so far I give it at least one thumb up. Beats the line-in jack on brightness, with a slightly higher volume too. I still have more playing around with it to do. Next stop, firewire AI.
